Best bug ever y/y?

Raid member, in Vent:

…I respecced and got ported to Stormwind…

No, I have no idea how the hell that can even happen, either. Your guess is as good as mine.

I thought I’d seen every bug in DS

I was wrong. Tonight, on Hagara, we got a brand new one.

Yes, that is a chunk of an ice wall lagging behind. No, I have no idea how that can happen. This is the first time I see it.

Dragon Soul in general is a rather buggy raid. Off the top of my head, and just counting bugs I’ve personally experienced, I can think of bugs on, let’s see…

Zon’ozz

  • The ball is prone to getting bugged and not moving after a bounce. This is recoverable on the 30% nerf, but very much a wipe on 0% if it happens at the wrong time.

Hagara

  • Conductors in the lightning phase not conducting properly;
  • Ice walls spawning immediately rather than with a slight delay (not an issue for a raid that doesn’t tank Hagara in the middle, but spelled doom for a lot of LFR raids before it was fixed);
  • A chunk of the ice wall lagging behind.and now this)

Ultraxion

  • It’s possible, although extremely rare, to click the button with the correct timing but still die to Fading Light or Hour of Twilight).

 Warmaster Blackhorn

  • The bloody fire keeps bloody spreading in phase 2. Makes it such fun to kill the boss when it happens.

Spine of Deathwing

  • Most people probably wouldn’t have noticed this one: if you switch Power of the Aspects off, the first tendon of the first pull you do will still be debuffed.

Madness of Deathwing

  • Thrall randomly dropping people;
  • Limb tentacles on non-assaulted platforms 100-stacking Burning Blood if damaged at all and wiping the raid;
  • The cast on Cataclysm not stopping immediately when you pry off a limb (leading to a wipe if you’re slightly slow and pry it up with only a few seconds to go on the cast);
  • Alextrasza will occasionally leave a Blistering Tentacle alive when burning them off;
  • If you use Dream to mitigate a Hemorrage (the damage spike that happens when you get the head to 15%, 10% and 5%), the damage from Corrupted Blood will spike up to the highest strength possible and then remain there rather than settling back down, making healing extremely intensive at best and impossible at worst.

And I could swear I’m forgetting some of them, especially for Madness. I hope MoP raiding is less buggy, but I’m not holding my breath.

(Fun note: I just searched Google for “Dragon Soul bugs”, wondering if there were any more bugs I’d not seen before, and the first handful of results were for Skyrim. Heh.)

Apparently I’m a spy

I was just looking myself up on the armory to start making plans for gear upgrades (slightly less than a week now until I’m back home and can actually start playing 4.2), and well, apparently the armory is currently slightly bugged and displaying wrong or nonexistent titles. Most of my characters are affected, but I thought this one particularly funny, since I just faction-switched back to Alliance from Horde. It’s okay, guys, my loyalties aren’t conflicted – honest!

Gold from silver: Dry Yeast and Noble Hops

Posted in Gold making, Professions with tags , , on February 18, 2011 by Aeliel

Shortly before patch 4.0.6 hit, I read a post on Kaliope’s Crafting weblog (which I keep meaning to link from the sidebar) about the introduction of a cooking goodie bag, randomly containing Cocoa Beans, Noble Hops and Dry Yeast. The bags would then become the only source of these cooking reagents, which prior to 4.0.6 were freely available in unlimited quantities from the same vendors which sold recipes for tokens.

So I went and stocked up, since I really hate having to buy crafting materials with limited tokens. Bought two stacks of each. Now I’m wishing I’d bought more.

See, the cooking bag is apparently bugged at the moment. It’s theoretically meant to be on a rotation; right now, the only bag showing up on the vendors is the one containing only Cocoa Beans.

Which means I sold my stockpile of Dry Yeast and Noble Hops for quite a lot of gold. If you also stocked up on them before the patch, I’d sell them now, before the bug is fixed. By the time they get around to fixing it, you’ll probably have spare tokens to buy the bag with if you desperately need them (I know I will – I’m just missing 6 3-token recipes, which means another two weeks of doing the daily with some moderate luck with 2-token quests).

On a side note, two other cooking-related vendor items that may sell are Tropical Sunfruits and Highland Pomegranates. I had spares after using them in recipes to obtain The Cataclysmic Gourmet, since they’re sold in stacks of five, so I figured I’d toss them at the AH just in case – and they sold. For 10g each. (Each stack of five is ~2g or so from a vendor, not counting reputation discounts and the like.) It’s worth a try – even if they don’t sell, you’ve not lost a huge upfront investment.

Broken meta gem is broken

Posted in Alts, Miscellanea, Professions with tags , on December 2, 2010 by Aeliel

I was puttering around on my warlock alt, checking how much the experience-needed shrink smooths out the levelling curve. (Answer: a fair bit – took me 3 hours to level from 72 to 73, and I was being quite slow, stopping to mine, running instances and so on.)

Hilariously enough, I hit 72 from exploration as I was flying to Howling Fjord to begin questing anew (since I haven’t done anything on her since I faction-swapped), and I then hit 73 from mining a Cobalt node… but that all is beside the point.

She’s still wearing mostly good old Burning Crusade epics (that I got her from random PuGs after hitting level 70 at the tail end of TBC), which means they’re still mostly gemmed with good old Burning Crusade gems, because I can’t honestly be bothered regemming items I’ll be replacing soon enough.

I figured my meta gem might be broken due to changes made to gem colors as well as to the meta gems themselves, so I thought I’d see if I could easily fix it by replacing a gem or two.

Yeah, no such luck. Wonder if they’ll actually ever fix it or just shrug and say “eh, it’s a Burning Crusade recipe, who cares”.

The frozen wastes of Winterspring

Posted in Achievements, Quests with tags , , on November 28, 2010 by Aeliel

To save Alieth, and anybody else attempting the Winterspring Quests achievement, the time I just spent hunting things down:

  • I think there’s meant to be a quest leading you to the Winterfall Cauldron; but I didn’t get it. I only found the stupid cauldron when I went to investigate on Wowhead why I was at 30-something quests through the achievement and I had no breadcrumbs to anywhere. The quest you pick up from the cauldron starts a long, long chain (which is extremely interesting, incidentally) that spans almost the entire zone and is worth about half the quests in the achievement by itself. Do yourself a favour and pick it up while you’re killing furbolgs for Donova Snowden if you don’t get pointed to it.
  • Speaking of that long, long chain – when you get sent to fetch the Owlbeast Dreamcatcher, go by the road rather than heading directly south from the questgiver. If you don’t, you’ll miss this guy, who’s worth three quests (and you’ll be killing the same mob for the long quest chain anyway). By the end of all this, I was at 57/60 with no breadcrumb quests leading anywhere.
  • Umi Rumplesnicker is meant to give you three quests, not two. One of them – The Perfect Horns – appears to be bugged; again, I didn’t get it. This shorts you two quests – that one, and Yetiphobia. (It might also mean that if you’re an engineer affected by this bug, you can’t learn the Tranquil Mechanical Yeti schematic; I’m not an engineer, so I’m not certain – but she used to teach the schematic to engineers who completed her chain pre-Shattering, at least. My only engineer already has it, so I can’t check.)
  • Salfa will give you at least one quest. He wouldn’t give me Delivery for Donova, probably because I’d already done Donova’s quests by the time I went to find him and it’s meant to be a breadcrumb (so check with him first), but he did give me Winterfall Activity, which counted. With Salfa’s one quest, I was at 58/60.
  • Burndl and Tanrir give you one quest each. There are no breadcrumbs leading you to them so you’ll never know they’re there unless you pass by Winterfall Village. They’re what got me the achievement.

Another oddity in Winterspring is the fact that I only got Everlook reputation out of three quests in the entire zone. (I was hoping for more, as I do still need Steamwheedle Cartel reputation for The Insane.) From looking at Wowhead, it seems that the two quests I couldn’t pick up from Umi Rumplesnicker would also give Everlook rep – but that still seems weird to me. Surely if one kill-stuff-and-bring-it-back quest that ends at Deez Rocksnitch gives rep, all of them ought to – all the NPCs involved in the quest chain are Everlook-factioned.
